The University of Cumbria are proud to present this exhibition of work from our BA (Hons) Film & TV course.
It offers a response and reaction to the many limitations experienced during the last year and demonstrates work that refuses to be defined by lockdown. Enthusiasm, dedication, and a refusal to allow restrictions to stifle creativity has driven these projects. The energy and passion on display demonstrates how our students thrived, crafting work under the most difficult, challenging circumstances. Capitalising on opportunities, winning awards and publicly screening films displays a degree of resilience and tenacity that will stand them in good stead as they prepare to enter the media industry.
If you'd like to see more student work, please contact them directly and follow the links to their websites and YouTube pages.

Over the course of my 5 year journey there have been many proud moments in my career. I am most proud of my progress in having the ability to run a successful freelance business working with many clients and also expanding the business to include photography which I have been receiving my first clients within a year during this difficult time. Also, I am very proud of films I have helped create on the way such as: Mossburn Documentary, A Funny Old World, Top Gear TV show, and the major film What’s Left Said.
I am now most interested in: landscape, portrait, and commercial photography. My goal is to combine the three aspects together to create a unique package I can offer Cumbria, nation, and international. I want to be a leading creative in this beautiful country. |

Instagram I am proud of the work I have created throughout university, particularly the short films ‘Submerged’ and ‘Trapped’, as I had a lot of creative freedom when producing the two pieces.
In terms of career aspirations, I aim to work in the creative industry as an artist, seeking to obtain an apprenticeship in tattooing. |

My name is Bailey Williams, and I am a young editor. I started off in front of the camera, but as time went on my love for behind the scenes grew. I originally wanted to be a Director, but as my time at University comes to an end, I feel myself gravitating towards Editing because it is what relaxes me, and it is what I love. The work I am most proud of are my short films Trovid-19 and Expectations because it was fun challenging myself to write and create interesting and gripping films in the current pandemic. As well as this I am proud of my experimental film Porcelain Breakfast because it challenged my editing technique, the cross between tones and combination of music tracks made it difficult to find the correct balance of music and footage for the scene. Finally, I am proud of my first client-based work because it was challenging to reach out to the business and film the scenes that were needed for the commercials during the pandemic.

Website Having started off thinking only as a writer, University had broadened my horizons to eventually discover my love for both producing and directing short films. I paired myself up with a good friend and we have been creative partners for a while now. Currently, we only have a small portfolio, with ‘Question Time’ being our first original sketch that has been fully completed. We hope to work further on this portfolio over the coming years.

With experience stretching from Directing short films to producing multicamera events as well as working locations for feature films I am fully investing myself into the world of Film and Media.
Recently I have been doing some ‘lockdown editing’ making choir videos for The Choir project Manchester which included a charity video helping raise funds for cancer research. My proudest achievement in film is having my ‘Minor project’ The Not So Superman be accepted into 2 festivals with a potential 3 more by the end of 2021! |

Hi, I’m Nathan and I am so excited to share my work with you! Through my three years of learning at the University I have discovered my passion for producing, but more importantly storytelling. I have been a leading force in many university productions from Live television to short films, I love to build a project from development and take it right through to distribution. I am inspired by the works of Michaela Coel, John Huhges and Ken Loach, they all have revolutionised film and the art of storytelling. I cannot wait to leave education and enter the industry back home in Scotland, there is surge in filmmaking there and I want to be there to ride the wave! I hope you enjoy the hard work me and my fellow filmmaking colleagues.

Throughout university I’ve slowly become more and more obsessed with cameras, so naturally I’ve gravitated to becoming a camera-operator and I also have a keen interest in cinematography as well. In the future I’d like to be able to start working on professional film-sets as a camera-op as it’s a field I’m very enthusiastic for. The thing I’m most proud of making so far would be my minor project at The University of Cumbria as it’s a project where I had full creative control, so I got to really stretch my legs creatively and experiment without anyone saying otherwise, overall it was a really enjoyable project to work on that I feel gave me a lot of insight into the field of camera work.

Through my three years studying at the UOC, I have learnt to take pride in the work I have done. I was always interested in writing and drawing- it was the UOC that helped me shape these talents and finding my passion for screenwriting and animation.
The video I have shared today, social masking, is the combination of my writing and animation together to create a three minute documentary. As someone who is neurodiverse, I wanted to create something that is relatable and informative. In the near future, I plan on going into primary teaching, and that is so I can teach creatively and share my passion and talents with younger people and hopefully inspire them to find their passion and talent. |
